RAPISTS AND WIFE BEATERS TO FACE LIFE SENTENCE IN EKITI STATE

The Ekiti State Government on Monday announced that rapists and wife beaters now face life sentence.

The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Information, Youth and Sports Development, Kola Ajumobi, said this at a public enlightenment forum in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Ajumobi also announced an increase in the maternity leave period for women in its public service from 12 weeks to 16 weeks.

He said that the gesture was approved by the state governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, as part of his display of love and special regard for the womenfolk in the state.

He said it was also aimed at encouraging exclusive breastfeeding for newly born children in the first six months of birth.

It is also meant to promote good nutrition for both mothers and their newborn children, he said.

Ajumobi said that nursing mothers would, in addition to the four months, be granted two hours’ off duty everyday for a period of six months from the date they resumed from maternity leave.

According to him, the commitment of the Fayose-led administration to the reduction in mothers and children’s mortality and morbidity rate to the barest minimum remains sacrosanct.

Ajumobi said the crèche at the state secretariat had also been invigorated to boost bonding between mothers and their children during official working hours without undue hindrance to performance and efficiency at the workplace.

The permanent secretary lamented that lack of good nutrition; poverty, hunger as well as lack of access to economic and political empowerment had largely contributed to high maternal and child mortality.

He, however, noted that the present administration in the state would continue to roll out various palliative packages exclusively for women to empower and guard them from avoidable travails.

Ajumobi said such measures already in existence include the provision of N500m as revolving soft-loan to promote small and medium Enterprises driven by women.

Also, women farmers were being supported with various incentives, he said.

According to him, government has also encouraged women’s access to political power.

Harmful traditional practices to woman’s nutritional and sexual reproductive health, such as widowhood rites and inheritance had become criminal offences in the state, he said.

NIGERIAN MAN WANTED BY THE FBI FOR FRAUDS

A Nigerian man who goes by the name of Kelechi Declan James has been declared wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in relation to a fraudulent e-mail scheme which cost the victims losses to the tune of 5 million USD.

Releasing a press release calling for anyone with useful information to contact them, the FBI said:

“FBI agents are looking for the public’s assistance in locating Kelechi Declan James. He has federal criminal charges against him from an investigation by FBI New York’s Cyber Crime Task Force. James is known to frequent the Brooklyn neighborhoods of East New York (Crescent Street and Loring Avenue; Vermont Street between Blake Avenue and Dumont Avenue), Brownsville, Bedford-Stuyvesant (MacDougal and Hull Streets), Crown Heights (Park Place and Utica Avenue), Flatbush (E 29th and Avenue D), and East Flatbush (East 51st and Winthrop Street). The FBI is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest.

“James is 32 years old, 6’0″ tall, and approximately 175 pounds. He is a Nigerian national, has brown eyes and black hair, and may have a beard. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of James is urged to contact law enforcement immediately. The FBI can be reached 24 hours a day at (212) 384-1000. He is not considered to be violent in nature.

“As alleged in a complaint sworn out of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, James, along with four other co-conspirators, ran a business e-mail compromise scheme that resulted victim losses of more than $5 million for their victims.

“As part of scheme, James and his co-conspirators defrauded victims across the U.S. by tricking them into wiring money to bank accounts the victims believed were owned by family members, friends, or business associates. They did this in two ways: by overtaking an e-mail account of an individual trusted by the victim and then requesting money be wired to a bank account; or by developing a relationship of trust with victim like an Internet romance and then asking the victim to wire money. As soon as the money was wired, it would be moved from one account to another, and the funds would be withdrawn. James’s role in this scheme was to withdraw the money from bank accounts.”

PRESIDENT BUHARI'S EASTER MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS

I congratulate our Christian brothers and sisters on the celebration of this year’s Easter.

I rejoice with you on this historic occasion signifying the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, redemption over condemnation, and hope over despair.

The commemoration of this special season in Christianity, is always preceded by fasting, piety, humility, penance and prayers of intercession in the build up to the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, an event which reunited man with his Creator.

The message of Easter is filled with themes of love, faith, sacrifice, dedication, commitment, fulfilment of prophecy, hope, expectation and victory, as espoused in the Scriptures and the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ.

As we celebrate yet another Easter, I urge all Nigerians to live peacefully with one another and do their utmost to make Nigeria a beautiful place to reside.

In the almost two years of this administration, we have worked hard to meet the expectations of Nigerians by improving security, especially in the North-East, sustaining the campaign against corruption and have taken steps to revitalize the economy.

We are determined as never before to continue with the fight against terrorism and insurgency; sustain the peace in the Niger Delta through engagements with stakeholders; and restore peace and stability in other parts of the country.

It is in our collective interest to live in peace because without peace, no meaningful and sustainable development can take place. Lack of peace in one part affects in one way or the other, all parts of the country. Our people must rediscover the values of peaceful co-existence, social justice, religious tolerance, dignity of labour and patriotism.

I enjoin all Nigerians to keep faith in the determination and ability of this administration to change the Nigerian story for the good of all.

I wish all Nigerians happy Easter celebrations.

"FIRST OF ALL I DID NOT WANT TO TAKE THE DEAL" DAVIDO'S REACTION TO SIGNING IN WITH SONY MUSIC

Davido got signed to Sony Music Entertainment in January 2016, and has endured a fractious relationship with the major label due to creative control issues.

The relationship provided the lukewarm “Son Of Mercy” EP and a collaboration with Tinashe on ‘How long’.

But the singer was unhappy, and has renegotiated his contract to enable him create his music the way he wants to.

“First of all, I didn’t even want to take the deal because I didn’t need it. I was doing tours all over Africa with 50,000 to 80,000, people so it was like why am I signing the deal?” He told Guardian

“They tried to fix me up with a producer and I decided to come home, but I’m still signed to them, it’s going good. They have realized how much potential is here because even when I am all over the world it is my African songs that even the oyibo people f*** with.”

Davido’s collaboration with Tinashe produced the song “How long’. The record was a tropical House production, which had the singer alter his style to blend with the US singer. A video for the song was shot in Malibu, California. But Davido was unhappy with it

The collaboration was as a result of the Sony deal. Don’t get me wrong, Tinashe is a talented artist but it wasn’t my style. My style is just the Nigerian style like I said before, I can’t sing American music pass Chris Brown and Chris Brown cannot come and sing Nigerian music pass me.” He says.

Davido’s new deal with Sony gave him creative control, which he has flexed to provide good results. His first single of 2016, ‘If’, has become a mega hit on the continent. The song produced by Tekno is currently leading every African chart and playlist. It has also shown crossover potential.

Davido believes that it is proof of how creative freedom provides the best results for musicians in Africa.

“I had to look at what I had, which was a whole continent. That is what all of those guys in America want. When you’re over there all of them want to be here. We need to just know what we are worth.”

Davido’s plan for his career is to be a legend and put other artists on. Then he can pivot his business to other fields.

“My goal would be to keep doing what I am doing and get to that legend status. I want to bring up other artists like Mayorkun, who dropped his single Sade.”

“I am 24 now, I cannot be doing music when I’m 30, I’ll probably drop two albums after this but I want to be done by the time I’m 29 or 30. I want to have a big media house and go into other things like filming. I know eight presidents personally so you can imagine what I can do, like youth empowerment.”

The “If You Ask me” crooner wrote on her instagram page:

I have been through a lot in the past few years and my testimony has been mostly of good... Well when God said ' all things work TOGETHER for good', most people forget that 'together' is made up of good and bad and sometimes horrible. Thank God I realized it not too late in life. When I look back in my life, where I came from, the woman I've grown up to be, all I say is God IS Good. I am not comparing myself to anyone and counting my blessings whilst comparing it to anyone's misfortune because I've come to realize that Life happens to anyone and everyone.

I am just in a place of extreme and complete Thanksgiving. Thank God, Thank My Family(Mothers, Brothers, Sisters, Cousins, Relatives) for nurturing me and guiding my steps, Thank you My Husband for loving me through it all, Thanks to my Children that bring my joy every waking day, Thank My Friends for being patient with me and accepting me with all my flaws, Thank you my fans and lovers of my music for shaping and celebrating my craft.
As I add another year in my life, my prayer is for you all, not me, because God has used you to bless me. May The Almighty God bless you all, May we all live long to encourage, build, bless each other In Jesus Name. AMEN #birthdaygirl #omawumi #omawanderings #timeless #omawonder

"MY HUSBAND WANTS TO USE ME FOR MONEY RITUAL" WOMAN TELLS COURT

A fashion designer, Bose Oguntoye, on Friday pleaded with an Agege Customary Court, Lagos, to end her five-year-old marriage, citing her husband’s fetish practices and threats to her life.

“My husband is too money conscious and is desperate to make money at all costs.

“I live in fear of the unknown because of all kinds of charms l see with him.

“He also beats me up at any slightest opportunity, especially when he is not in a good mood, he visits his anger on me,’’ she told the court.

Testifying before Mr Phillips Williams, the court President, she said there was no love lost between them again.

“Sometime in April 2015, when l became pregnant with our second child, my husband placed a charm on me and l became sick and eventually ran mad.’’

He took me to somewhere in Matogun, Ikorodu under the pretext of curing me and l was being fed with all sorts of assorted charms.

The petitioner said that she is still alive today due to the intervention of her family members who came to take her away, when her health was deteriorating.

“I was taken to Ikare in Ondo State where l spent five months, before l became hale and hearty again.’’

Bose alleged that when she came back to her matrimonial home, her husband did not relent in his fetish ways.

“He took me to a muslim cleric who gave me a substance and told me not to get close to my husband for sometime.

“On getting home, my husband told me to move to my parent’s house, which l refused. This led to a series of misunderstandings between us.’’

According to the petitioner, the respondent became confrontational with her.

“He told me that he wants to be rich this year under any circumstances. l must build houses and buy cars’’ to which l replied “there is no problem with that, as long as you don’t use me for money rituals.’’ Bose told the court that the respondent used force to collect her two children from her, under the guise of being a police officer.

“They made me write a statement under duress, to release my children and they took them away from me, claiming that l was mentally unstable.’’

“I had to run for my dear life when l realised he was making serious efforts to use me for money rituals.

The respondent, Adewale Oguntoye, an indigene of Ondo State, resident at No. 4, Oluyomi Olusesi St., Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, however, denied the allegations, but was ready for the dissolution of the marriage.

According to the father of two, there has been a frosty relationship between him and his wife since she came up with the idea of going to another church.

Adewale, a resident of No. 4, Oluyomi Olusesi St., Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, claimed that the petitioner had been keeping late nights and would not disclose her whereabouts.

“She started misbehaving, keeping all sorts of friends and became disrespectful to me.’’

Adewale said he suspected his wife was dating the pastor of the church she started attending, even after he vehemently disagreed and warned her not to continue, she remained adamant.

He alleged that the pastor took the petitioner out on Valentine’s Day and bought her different gifts.

The respondent described his wife as an adulterer.

On the allegation of trying to use his wife for money rituals, the respondent denied, but the petitioner remained adamant.

NAN reports that the court’s president later invited the estranged couple to his chambers for a possible resolution of the crisis.

He then adjourned the case until April 20, for hearing.A fashion designer, Bose Oguntoye, on Friday pleaded with an Agege Customary Court, Lagos, to end her five-year-old marriage, citing her husband’s fetish practices and threats to her life.

PRESIDENT TRUMP TO SELL ATTACK PLANE TO NIGERIA FOR BOKO HARAM FIGHT

The Trump administration will move forward with the sale of high-tech aircraft to Nigeria for its campaign against Boko Haram Islamic extremists despite concerns over abuses committed by the African nation’s security forces, according to US officials.

Congress is expected to receive formal notification within weeks, setting in motion a deal with Nigeria that the Obama administration had planned to approve at the very end of Barack Obama’s presidency.

The arrangement will call for Nigeria to purchase up to 12 Embraer A-29 Super Tucano aircraft with sophisticated targeting gear for nearly $600 million, one of the officials said.

The officials were not authorized to discuss the terms of the sale publicly and requested anonymity to speak about internal diplomatic conversations.

Though President Donald Trump has made clear his intention to approve the sale of the aircraft, the National Security Council is still working on the issue.

Military sales to several other countries are also expected to be approved but are caught up in an ongoing White House review.

Nigeria has been trying to buy the aircraft since 2015.

The Nigerian air force has been accused of bombing civilian targets at least three times in recent years.

In the worst incident, a fighter jet on January 17 repeatedly bombed a camp at Rann, near the border with Cameroon, where civilians had fled from Boko Haram.

Between 100 and 236 civilians and aid workers were killed, according to official and community leaders’ counts.

That bombing occurred on the same day the Obama administration intended to officially notify Congress the sale would go forward. Instead, it was abruptly put on hold, according to an individual who worked on the issue during Obama’s presidency. Days later, Trump was inaugurated.

Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., the chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee, said this past week that he supported the A-29 deal to Nigeria as well as the sale of US-made fighter jets to Bahrain that had been stripped of human rights caveats imposed by the Obama administration.

Under Obama, the US said Bahrain failed to make promised political and human rights reforms after its Sunni-ruled government crushed Arab Spring protests five years ago.

“We need to deal with human rights issues, but not on weapons sales,” Corker said.

The State Department said in a 2016 report that the Nigerian government has taken “few steps to investigate or prosecute officials who committed violations, whether in the security forces or elsewhere in the government, and impunity remained widespread at all levels of government.”
Amnesty International has accused Nigeria’s military of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the extrajudicial killings of an estimated 8 000 Boko Haram suspects.

President Muhammadu Buhari promised to investigate the alleged abuses after he won office in March 2015, but no soldier has been prosecuted and thousands of people remain in illegal military detention. Nigeria’s military has denied the allegations.

The A-29 sale would improve the US relationship with Nigeria, Africa’s largest consumer market of 170 million people, the continent’s biggest economy and its second-largest oil producer.

Nigeria also is strategically located on the edge of the Sahel, the largely lawless semi-desert region bridging north and sub-Saharan Africa where experts warn Islamic extremists like the Nigeria-based Boko Haram may expand their reach.

The aircraft deal also would satisfy Trump’s priorities to support nations fighting Islamic uprisings, boost US manufacturing and create high-wage jobs at home.

The A-29 aircraft, which allow pilots to pinpoint targets at night, are assembled in Jacksonville, Florida.

“It’s hard to argue that any country in Africa is more important than Nigeria for the geopolitical and other strategic interests of the US,” said J. Peter Pham, vice president of the Atlantic Council in Washington and head of its Africa Center.

Once Congress is officially notified of the sale, lawmakers who want to derail it have 30 days to pass veto-proof legislation. That’s a high hurdle given Corker’s support. Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., chairperson of the Armed Services Committee, also said he backs the sale.

“We’ve really got to try to do what we can to contain them,” McCain said of Boko Haram.

In Trump’s first phone call with Buhari in February, he “assured the Nigerian president of US readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism,” according to Buhari’s office.

A February 15 White House statement that provided a summary of the call said “President Trump expressed support for the sale of aircraft from the United States to support Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram.”

Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland, the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, said in mid-February he was “leery” of the sale because of the Nigerian military’s impunity. Cardin said this week he’s not trying to block the deal.

“Ultimately we hope that the sale goes forward,” he said. “But there is progress that needs to be made in protecting the civilian population.”

RIHANNA AND DRAKE REUNITE AT A KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY

The former couple were spotted at a kid's birthday party in L.A., but based on Snapchat footage that has since been deleted, it doesn't look like they interacted too much. RiRi and Drake briefly reunited last July, partying nonstop and putting their love on display wherever they went. They even got matching tattoos together, but it wasn't enough to keep their love going. Rih and Drake ended their relationship in August.

"Rihanna and Drake are seeing other people at the moment," a source told E! News at the time. "They are not exclusive anymore. They still love each other, but their schedules have gotten in the way."

Like any on-again, off-again couple, our source said RiRi and Drake could reunite at any time. "Anything can change between them though, for better or worse," the source added. "They are still in each other's lives."

After they called it quits, Drake was spotted with India Love and ultimately with Jennifer Lopez, but he and the "Ain't Your Mama" songstress cooled off in February because of their packed schedules; Drake continued on his world tour while J.Lo resumed her Las Vegas residency and filming Shades of Blue. Although a source said they were still "in each other's lives" after splitting, it was clear they fizzled for good once Lopez got hot and heavy with Alex Rodriguez.

But did RiRi move on with anyone since Drake? If so, she didn't do it publicly. Instead, the "Work" songstress focused on her career and even received Harvard University's Humanitarian of the Year award. She also appeared in the series Bates Motel.

We have to wonder if either had "love on the brain" when they saw each other.
